Scatter I have been beta testing for some time now. They have done a lot of nice fixes in the current release. I am still wanting to make robe hoods a toggle. Sith Mauraders at least thru lvl 26 the hood is always down where the Inquisitors are typically up.
So SWTOR is doing some maintenance and I thought I would jump on and give a little review for folks interested. I will add to this post as I gain more information.
I have to say overall I'm beyond impressed with what they've done so far. If they create great end game content I believe it could actually give WoW a little run for its money. I've never been a huge Star Wars fan but have really enjoyed the story so far.
I've currently played Jedi Knight/Sentinel, Smuggler, and Sith Inquisitor. The Jedi Knight is the highest at level(12).
Story, Story, Story, and a little more Story: The amount of story I've got in this game already, is better than 99% of games on the market right now. Each quest offers a cut scene with great voice acting that just continues to draw me in. Each class gets specific story elements and in true Bioware fashion you get a say in how it unfolds.
Looting: When a mob has loot a huge color beam shoots up from its body until looted. The color of the beam tells you what type of loot it is. Group looting options are like WoW.
Voice Acting: Superb! I can't believe how much of a difference this makes. You are quickly drawn into the story. Multiple times Toth has walked into my room and thought I was watching a movie.
Abilities: I've only experienced the lower level abilities of the above classes. They are fun and each have a specific graphic that are visually very appealing. I think the melee visuals are a huge upgrade over the ones in WoW. The force powers are a lot of fun but I'm enjoying the Sith ones more at this moment. I'm not sold on ranged weapons(guns) yet but haven't spent much time with them.
Questing: Crazy Amounts of Fun! Between the voice acting, cut scenes, and decisions you make I think a person would have to go out of there way not to enjoy questing. The "bonus quest" feature is awesome. This pops up a lot while your already on a quest and allows you to benefit from doing additional tasks while in the area.
Empire/Sith: Will add info later.
Transportation: Will add info later.
UI: Will add info later.
I know some of you folks are skeptical about this game. At this point I feel anyone who passes on this title is making a huge mistake. If you enjoy a great RPG then this title is right up your ally(yes I know its an mmo).
I found out it takes 4 founders and 5,000 credits to start a guild. Anyone who's interested let me know and we can work out the details for a launch guild. I would like to continue playing with as many of my guild mates as possible.
I'm in the same boat as SB. Jumped on board the D3 Annual Pass deal, so will be on WoW for the foreseeable future. I do believe I'll end up playing SWTOR at some point though. I would be interested in joining a guild once I'm on though.
I was in the most recent Weekend Beta and loved every minute I played. I played a Cyborg Smuggler up to level 14 and a few other classes for a level or 2. The only real issue I had was extreme lag while in major hubs unless I turned my graphics WAY down. That may be all a result of a subpar rig, but I run WoW on ultra (sans shadows) and it's rarely anything but smooth.
yeah he flagged us as RP. My boss has played just about every MMO that has been done and he said in all the games whenever he tried out on an RP server he found the least amount of douche bags and while we aren't going to RP having less douche bags is worth it he felt. I like the thought and am all set to go. Douche bags are everywhere but the less is better I say.
An old guildy sent me a 7 day trial so I've been messing with the game a bit. Just got to level 9 on a Jedi knight and so far everything looks great. I'm really impressed with the cut scenes and voice acting. Looks like they've put in a lot of work. I'm on Ajunta Pall server atm.
I got an email for a 7 day trial and have been playing since Saturday. I have a level 12 Jedi Shadow on Zakkeg Beast.
I'd be willing to start over and play a character on another server in order to play with friends. My only restriction is that I have no desire to play on a pvp server. I'm willing to play on either side (empire/republic). I'm also trying to convince Deadwarrior/Pyrocaster to play.
Sidenote: We all know that I hate to quest. I really do. But in SW:ToR its my favorite part. The storyline is the highlight of the game for me thus far. It doesn't hurt that there are actual voices to go along with the npc's. It really does make a difference over having just text.
